Freakshow 6 (66)
Guest Author P - Man.
I have been organising the Freakshow for the past 5 yrs now, and after being unable to do one last year I wanted to make this year’s gig a huge one with an all metal line up. With the lack of venues available to metal bands, I wanted to use ‘Kamal Hall’ to have a show dedicated to the rabid metalheads and the metal bands of Mumbai (who still stick around and persevere while giving a chance to the newer bands who would otherwise be relegated to playing only college competitions.)

"Supported by BBF Prod"
This year I managed to get veterans Sceptre, the thrash metal mongers Devoid, the Mumbai groove-trash monsters Zygnema, my new favourite Mumbai death metal band Atmosfear. We also had two newcomers - Apollonian Quest and my band Khiladi. I also managed to con Babble Fish Productions into filming the show for PMS, muahahahahaha. The venue was a new one, a wedding/banquet hall, with crap acoustics and a capacity of some 180-200 people. Crap.

Sceptre

Headbangers Ball!
The gig started off with everything horribly behind schedule - the band first up, Apollonian Quest was stuck in some mad Mumbai traffic, the drumkit came in without a drum stool, and moments before the second band went up on stage, the snare stand was discovered to be broken. FML!

On the Guitar....
Picture this – the place is packed! Some 240 people cramped into a small space, AQ turns up late and now have to play last, sound is not that great, but the crowd are loving it. Moshpits-destruction of my makeshift barricading (read: crap quality table tied together at the legs by ropes) people falling all over the sound console….ahh, the perfect making for a metal gig here !

Full Capacity
Despite all the moshing and bleeding (yes there was some of that as well) and head banging Babble Fish Productions weathered the storm and managed to capture the entire gig! Goolshireen fell off an empty drum case, (no shes not hurt) &Paritosh (the newest intern) handled my myspace cam (and did a great job – though slightly afraid in the beginning he almost moshed at the end of the show).
However, because of lack of time some of the bands had to cut their sets short and the cops came to shut down the place. 10:30, half n hour over the designated time to shut down speakers in this country!
All in all a killer gig, managed to pay the bands from the gate money, the people from Babblefish got a first hand experience of a ‘Metal’ gig, and they actually loved Khiladi’s set! And I know they aren’t lying :P

Khiladi
Can’t wait for the Freakshow episode to go online !!
